This breathtaking pair of earrings set a new record price of $57.4m and were sold to an anonymous buyer, as separate lots, at Sotheby’s ‘Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels’ sale in Geneva, last Tuesday 16th May, 2017.
They are the most valuable pair of diamond earrings ever sold at auction despite the fact they are two non-matching pear shaped diamond earrings. Due to their colour and rarity they are an exquisite treasure.

Sotheby’s named them after Apollo and Artemis, “a twin brother and sister of great power and beauty who were among the most widely venerated of the Ancient Greek deities,” the auction house said in a press release.
The ‘Apollo Blue’ is a 14.54 carat Fancy Vivid Blue - Internally Flawless diamond. It has been graded by GIA as “Type IIb” stone, a group which contains less than one half of one per cent of all diamonds. It has been cut and polished into an unmodified pear shape to bring out its colour.
The ‘Artemis Pink’ is a 16.00 carat Fancy Intense Pink - VVs2 diamond. It is a “Type IIa” diamond which GIA describes as ‘the most chemically pure type’ of diamonds and with exceptional optical transparency. The pink diamond also has been cut into a pear shape.
These diamonds are truly exceptional stones on their own however, when considered as a pair, they enter a class of their own: the most important earrings ever to appear at auction! Each colour enhance the other but together they are of unparalleled beauty!
These diamonds are a true wonder of nature!
